A 12-year-old girl came for acupuncture treatment due to her right-foot drop for five days after failing down.

BL 40 (Weizhong), GB 34 (Yanglingquan), SP 6 (Sanyinjiao), SP 5 (Shanqiu), GB 40 (Qiuxu), LR 3 (Taichong), and GB 41 (Zulinqi), all of which were on the right side, were selected.

Methods

The needle in BL 40 (Weizhong) was not retained but removed after the arrival of qi (De Qi) and needling sensation extending to the back of the foot. Needles in the other points were connected with the acupuncture machine and dilatational wave was applied after the arrival of qi. Warm needling was utilized on GB 40 (Qiuxu). After five acupuncture treatments, the symptom of right-foot drop was alleviated significantly. Analysis

This patient suffered from fall injury of right foot, which caused the qi and blood blockage; consequently, her right lower limb became weak and the right foot could not lift high enough to leave the ground while walking. The treatment methods were moving qi, activating blood and unblocking the collaterals. The local points were primarily selected to unblock the local qi and blood in the local meridians and collaterals.
